The digital ticket saves you ¥100 per adult and, more importantly, guarantees your timed entry slot. This matters most during peak season — cherry blossom (late March to mid-April) and autumn foliage (October to November) regularly see queues at the gate, and the most popular time slots sell out. A digital ticket lets you walk past the queue directly to the entry counter.
The gate ticket is convenient if your schedule is uncertain, but you risk arriving to find your preferred time slot is full. During off-peak months (January to March excluding public holidays, and November outside the foliage peak), gate tickets are usually straightforward with little wait.

Children under elementary school age (under approximately 6–7 years old) enter Matsumoto Castle free of charge with no ticket required. Children of elementary school age and above are charged the standard adult admission rate — there is no separate discounted child rate for older children at the gate.
On guided samurai experience tours, children under 6 also participate in the sword activity at no extra cost, with foam swords and children's outfits provided.
Disability Concession
Visitors with a valid disability certificate (shougaisha techou) enter Matsumoto Castle free of charge, and one accompanying caregiver is also admitted free. Present the certificate at the ticket counter. The castle keep is not wheelchair accessible due to steep internal staircases, but the castle grounds, Honmaru Garden, and outer park areas are fully flat and accessible.
